![]() ![]() Most huli jing find the texture of silk to be quite enjoyable, and the lack of coloration makes it easier to colorize it with their cloak of illusion. If silk is unavailable, the huli jing will make due with whatever fabric they can find. Huli jing clothing is typically made of un-dyed silk, but otherwise resembles other fashionable garments of the area. Those with more tails are regarded higher still, until you get to the immortal nine-tailed huxian, who are often im positions of power such as priesthood or nobility. Huli jing with multiple tails are generally regarded with respect. Females do not have notable breasts unless pregnant or nursing. The fox form looks much like a regular fox, but it’s slightly larger than the average fox and has the same softer, more expressive face as it’s humanoid form. Both forms are covered head to toe in soft fur in patterns of orange, black, white, brown, and silver-gray. Their lower legs are canine, terminating in fox paws. The humanoid’s palms and fingertips are hairless, covered by black, soft, and somewhat springy flesh, like the pads on their feet, but much less rough. On average, the humanoid form ranges between 4’8” and 5’4”, with a fox-like head, though their features are softer and more expressive. The first one gives the gift of health and beauty, the second gives prosperity and knowledge, and the third measures a length of thread that determines the length of native’s life.Huli Jing have two natural forms, one a humanoid fox, and one pure fox. They are called “Rodjenice” (= fairies of birth), or “Sudjenice” (=fairies of fate). The family would leave gifts in form of food, drink and a golden coin to appease them. In Slavic folklore, there are tales of three fairies that visit a newborn and bestow good fortune and health upon her, but also determine the course of her life. Some later (18th century) sources describe these beings as malevolent - they would often attract men with their song and drown them. ![]() They live in rivers and lakes, and in some legends it’s said that they weren’t able to move away from water, and that their hair was always wet - if they’d let it dry, they would’ve died. The name is supposedly derived from the word meaning “red”, because they have long red hair. ![]() Rusalka is a type of water nymph from Russian legends (but it also spread to other Slavic countries). Most fairies will do harm only to those who show disrespect toward them, but there are also “dark” or “evil” fairies that you simply don’t want to cross paths with. Most stories about fairies are positive, but there are also tales of fairies that steal or hide things, and even kidnap children or lure men into the woods where they get lost and die. If you haven’t watched “The Secret Of Kells”, it’s visually the most gorgeous 2D-animated cartoon I’ve seen in a decade, and the story is quite good as well. Now granted, I could have invested a little more effort and recreated them in my style, but it was 3 in the morning, so I took the shorter route.
